William Ouellette (born 1983) grew up in Moorpark, California. At the age of six, he started studying piano and then the clarinet by the age of ten. Desiring to obtain more skills, he switched to the French horn at age 14, which is now his instrument of choice. Developing a sense for music theory prompted him to start writing small melodies. Throughout high school he wrote small brass and wind pieces. His first conducting experience with a large wind ensemble was featured during the final concert of his senior year at Moorpark High School.
While attending California State University, Northridge as an undergraduate, he studied film, music genres, theory and business management. Additionally, he attended film composition classes given by Prof. Elizabeth Sellers. William easily developed relationships with fellow student composers and film makers which allowed him to successfully showcase and conduct a recital of his music and films during his senior year. He has returned to Cal State, Northridge and has obtained the Master of Music degree in Band Conducting while studying under Dr. Lawrence Stoffel. He is now in the process of publishing a series of concert works for middle school bands with TRN Music Publishing.
